Wanna Believe

A love song of a heartbroken man who has doubts if the object of his affections truly loves him in return. He must make the decision of whether it is worth the risk to give love that feels too good to be true a chance. Clint Hartwood brings this plea for love to life in this country pop song.

Lyrics

People all around wonder
Don’t know how it can be
Someone as beautiful as you
Could love someone like me
Their words are like daggers
Doubts that stab at my mind
Making me question myself
Maybe I really am blind
Then I think of all our time together
The way we make each other feel
How it all feels so natural, honey
Dear God I pray that this is real
Because
You make me feel loved
In ways I never have before
You make me feel wanted
Every desire I have, and more
Then they make me wonder
If you intend to deceive
But my soul says to trust you
So I wanna believe
Yes I need to believe.
Their words are pure poison
Uncertainty crushing my soul
I am filled with dark visions
Depression swallows me whole
Am I truly that unworthy
Do I not deserve your love
I pray daily for something
For some sign from above
I think of all our time together
The way we make each other feel
How it all feels so natural, honey
Dear God I pray that this is real
Because
You make me feel loved
In ways I never have before
You make me feel wanted
Every desire I have, and more
Then they make me wonder
If you intend to deceive
But my soul says to trust you
So I wanna believe
Yes I need to believe.
I’ve been waiting all my life
To meet someone like you
We feel connected so deeply
I pray that your love is true
You make me feel loved
In ways I never have before
You make me feel wanted
Every desire I have, and more
Please help me not wonder
Show that you don’t deceive
Prove ‘em wrong to not trust you
You can make them believe
Oh I want to
Yes I need to
I know you’ll do what you say
Because I’m right
Yes I was right to believe

Behind the Music

Composer’s Thoughts

If you’ve ever lived a life filled with trauma, you’ll understand what it means to question when something good comes along. History teaches us that when something is too good to be true, it probably is. That sort of skepticism can build a barrier around us that makes it difficult to allow something good and healthy in. That’s the subject this song tackles. When something or someone good is possible, we have to be willing to do the brave thing and give it a chance if we ever hope to live a fulfilling life.

Clint’s Thoughts

This song spoke to me. I know with my wife, I could not fathom how someone so amazing as her would choose a big lunkhead like me. It was hard to open up for quite some time, but thankfully Heather’s got a big heart and she’s much smarter than me. She knew I would get it eventually, and I thank God for her every day.
