Back to Orlando

Lyrics

I sit in the car, ready to drive away
Moments ago, I left your embrace
An emptiness strikes me deep inside
I can’t hold back, tears run down my face
Don’t know when I will see you next
The smell of you is all that remains
I finally put the car in gear now
And the sky itself cries, as it rains
And I’m going back to Orlando
Over four thousand miles away
Yeah I’m heading back to Orlando
My heart wishes I could just stay
I don’t wanna go back to Orlando
No it’s empty and I’m so alone
Please follow me back to Orlando
Until you do I’ll never be home.
Don’t wanna go back
Don’t know what to do
Only sadness remains
In Orlando without you.
Now I’m boarding the plane all alone
You were supposed to be here by my side
My heart is so weak and arms are empty
Because the whole way here I just cried
Don’t know when I will hold you next
But now I’m finally boarding the plane
As we lift of the ground and fly away
The sky sheds tears in the form of rain
And I’m going back to Orlando
Over four thousand miles away
Yeah I’m heading back to Orlando
My heart wishes I could just stay
I don’t wanna go back to Orlando
No it’s empty and I’m so alone
Please follow me back to Orlando
Until you do I’ll never be home.
Don’t wanna go back
Don’t know what to do
Only sadness remains
In Orlando without you.
I unlock the door to the house now
It’s so empty inside and so damn dark
Every step I take echoes my sadness
Like my soul itself has lost its spark
This is no longer my home without you
It’s just a place where I lay my head
I won’t smile until you’re back with me
And we can hold each other in our bed
I hate being back in Orlando
Over four thousand miles away
Yeah I may be back in Orlando
My heart doesn’t want to stay
I don’t wanna be back in Orlando
No it’s empty and I’m so alone
Please follow me back to Orlando
Until you do I’ll never be home.
Don’t wanna be back
Don’t know what to do
Only sadness remains
In Orlando without you.
So please
Please
Please
Please come home soon

Behind the Music

Composer’s Thoughts

This was a very dark chapter in the romance between Anastasia and I. I had flown to Spain from Orlando to have a formal marriage proposal in front of her family and to bring her back one final time to Orlando. Everything was going well until her mother had a breakdown and even confiscated her passport at the last minute, forcing me to return to Orlando alone. The song, Mother Hear Me is her side of those events and this is mine. Things got better and she did come home. But the feeling of despair and worry of not knowing if the loss was temporary or permanent was beyond words. So I turned to music to express my feelings fully.

Mateo’s Thoughts

This song was so deep and emotionally raw, and I loved the challenge. Knowing that the story was real propelled me to do my best. Though I haven’t had this exact circumstances, I have had a long distrance romance. I can say that it spoke to me in that regard and I hope I was able to channel that into my voice.
