Life Sucks and Then You Die

Life marches ever onward and it doesn’t slow down. For far too many of us, we let it slip by without making the most of it. This funny and quirky hip-hop ballad reminds us of this with a deep message delivered in the unmistakable manner only Gianna could bring to light.

Lyrics

In my 20s I drink Bacardi
And stay up all night
I love to party.
The world’s my oyster
My life’s ahead of me
I’m no boaster
Just wait and see
There’s no stopping me!
Because life goes on and on
Whether you want it to
Well there’s no going back
Nothing else we can do
There's no rhyme or reason why
But as the saying goes
Life sucks
And then you die
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
In my 30s things are gettin’ serious
No time for acting delirious
It’s time to get a house and a man
I think things through and have a plan
My knees have started to creak
My metabolisms getting weak
I go to bed early no time to play
I work all day for little pay
Because life goes on and on
Whether you want it to
Well there’s no going back
Nothing else we can do
There's no rhyme or reason why
But as the saying goes
Life sucks
And then you die
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
In my forties things change
Half my hopes went down the drain
But some parts are not so bad
Had a kid but then I lost his dad.
Alone now, I put dating on hold.
Son grew up but now I feel old.
But I decide to date despite my flaws
Whoops lookout, here comes menopause!
Because life goes on and on
Whether you want it to
Well there’s no going back
Nothing else we can do
There's no rhyme or reason why
But as the saying goes
Life sucks
And then you die
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Fifties comes and goes
With aches and pains in my bones
Sixties I feel I hit my stride
When I’m able to leave the bedside
Seventies I figure what’s the use?
I’m cranky as hell and dish out abuse!
Now eighties just wait and see…
Won’t someone please kill me!
Because life goes on and on
Whether you want it to
Well there’s no going back
Nothing else we can do
There's no rhyme or reason why
But as the saying goes
Life sucks
And then you die
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Life is short so don’t waste time
Take those chances,
find a mountain you can climb.
We only get one life
Let’s make the most of it.
Or you might end up
A grumpy ol’ pile o’ shit!
Because life goes on and on
Whether you want it to
Well there’s no going back
Nothing else we can do
There's no rhyme or reason why
But no matter what they say
Life doesn’t have to suck
Before you die
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
That’s right life doesn’t have to suck before you die
Oh-oh
Oh-oh
Oh-oh

Behind the Music

Composer’s Thoughts

So this song was inspired by a funny conversation with Anastasia. She called asking in a shocked and concerned manner that her knees were making weird sounds when she was bending down to pick something up. She genuinely worried that she might need to go to the doctor’s office. I laughed and told her “Welcome to your thirties.” It was just such a funny thought about how we all learn about these things in milestones we call “growing pains”… How we go from thinking we’re invulnerable and will live forever, to the harsh realities of life, the older we get. People say “Life sucks and then you die…” and while that’s a funny sentiment… there’s a better message. Yes we all will eventually die, but it’s up to us to decide if it sucks or not.

Gianna’s Thoughts

This song really opened my eyes. I’m only in my twenties, and I absolutely embody that part of the song. Now, tho, I’m totally embracing life one day at a time and trying to make every day matter. We only get one life, ya know?
