James Calder grew up in east Texas with older brother, Troy Calder. The two share their artistic genes, but in vastly different ways. James is the alternative-pop and alternative-rock storyteller of the Nostalgic Tones collective. James brings his wry energy to fill out the emotional contradiction, romantic confusion, dry humor, and wounded sincerity into songs that shift between playful, brooding, awkward, and deeply human. His music often lives where heartbreak, irony, attraction, self-doubt, and strange little everyday disasters collide. He's a truly unique artist and has an almost chameleon quality to his voice, making him able to adapt to the style of song like few others can.
