Disappearing Jenny

A fun/quirky song about finding love, only to have it inexplicably disappear. James Calder tackles this strange scenario in his alt rock style.

Lyrics

Stunnin' out of London
She said her name was Jenny
With a body out of magazines
And a smile that dreams are made of
I thought I was the one
She teased we should run to Vegas
She's the kind you wanna keep forever
But you blink and then she's gone
I've been lookin' high and low
And through my soul
Where did you go Jenny?
Where did you go Jenny?
The streets of Tampa Bay
Are not too far away
But you’re not around
You can’t be found.
She left no goodbye note
So tell me where did you go?
Where did you go Jenny?
My disappearing Jenny.
Guess she found her way back
Much to my dismay…
She said "come meet me here
And let’s reconnect my dear!”
So I went right away
I thought this time she’d stay…
But like a trick Without a hat
afterwards just like that
She was gone
I thought she was the one.
I've been lookin' high and low
And through my soul
Where did you go Jenny?
Where did you go Jenny?
The streets of Tampa Bay
Are not too far away
But you’re not around
You can’t be found.
She left no goodbye note
So tell me where did you go?
Where did you go Jenny?
My disappearing Jenny.
You were such a good girl
The way you rocked my world
I’ll never forget you
You are my sweet Jenny
I've been lookin' high and low
And through my soul
Where did you go Jenny?
Where did you go Jenny?
The streets of Tampa Bay
Are not too far away
But you’re not around
You can’t be found.
She left no goodbye note
So tell me where did you go?
Where did you go Jenny?
My disappearing Jenny.

Behind the Music

Composer’s Thoughts

So, believe it or not, this really happened. There truly was a real Jenny who came in and out of my life, and each time it was a whirlwind romance. Then when literally everything seemed perfect, she would disappear. Each time she came back she would explain it was because her years of trauma made her scared when she got too close… leading to panic, anxiety and running away. Each time, she swore she wouldn’t do it again, and each time she did. I think that this is not a unique experience, and many of us can relate… either by being the person who was left suddenly, or being the one who did the running away.

James’ Thoughts

I don’t often get to do real rock songs, as my lane tends to be more alt pop. The rock side of things was always more Troy’s (my brother’s) side of the fence. But I do love rock, so getting to do something like this is fun. It is a strange circumstance, and that part is right up my alley.
