Lyrics

When it all comes crashing down
It’s all a swirl of darkness in the end
We don’t know what’ll happen next
What awaits us past the final bend.
Shadows overhead the entire way
In twisting thorns on the path of life
With blood and sweat we got here
Perhaps this is an end to our strife
So what was it all for
What did it all mean
When our body’s broken
Were we ever seen?
This is the last verse
You will ever sing
This is the last moment
Of your every, thing
When you look back
Will you even lament
Was your life well-lived
Was your time well-spent
Or when they find you
Look into soulless sockets
Is all that’s left the contents
Of a dead man’s pockets
We are born into a world of confusion
With our first breath we begin to die
Decay haunts our every step in life
If others say differently, then they lie
You can only follow the examples given
There’s no map for you to navigate
An existence filled with so much trauma
All of the turmoil leading to your fate
So what was it all for
What did it all mean
When our body’s broken
Were we ever seen?
This is the last verse
You will ever sing
This is the last moment
Of your every, thing
When you look back
Will you even lament
Was your life well-lived
Was your time well-spent
Or when they find you
Look into soulless sockets
Is all that’s left the contents
Of a dead man’s pockets
So what was it all for
What did it all mean
When our body’s broken
Were we ever seen?
This is the last verse
You will ever sing
This is the last moment
Of your every, thing
When you look back
Will you even lament
Was your life well-lived
Was your time well-spent
Or when they find you
Look into soulless sockets
Is all that’s left the contents
Of a dead man’s pockets
What’s left in your pockets
Was it worth it?
Was it really worth it?
It’s your choice
To make it all worth it

Behind the Music

Composer’s Thoughts

I was watching a television detective show, and the investigators began rifling through the pockets of a dead body when it hit me. Even though this was fiction, that body represented someone who had once been a life, and now all they were was a motionless lump of meat. What did they leave behind? Did they leave a legacy? Or was all that was left of them the contents of their pockets, waiting to be pulled out by someone before being disposed of? It’s a pretty sobering realization to say the least.

Troy’s Thoughts

Death, mortality and what we leave behind are such rock and roll themes. This is one of the darker songs we’ve done on the collective. But it definitely has a deep message. We only get one life, and we need to do the most with it.
