Behind the Music

Composer’s Thoughts

This song actually makes me cry. It’s based on the same Viktoriya from the song, Viktoriya Means Victory. She had asked me to write a song about her with a symphonic score. I don’t know what she was expecting but I wrote literally her life story. She inspires me with her inner strength and fire in her heart, so that’s what I wrote about. When I played it for her, she hated it because (in her words) I wrote “an effing tear puller.” She was crying so hard. So, I think it worked? And while this song is obviously about the events of one woman, I think the power behind it is not unique. Mothers everywhere have a power deep inside them when it comes to protecting and taking care of their children. This is something rarely written about that needs more accolades. Mothers everywhere need more appreciation than they receive.

Mateo’s Thoughts

The story of this song is like something else, man. My father passed away at a young age so I was raised by my single mother myself as well as my abuela. I was surrounded by strong women, so I can see a lot of parallels. Very powerful.
